I have spent the last 12 of my 15 professional years as a staff photographer for a daily newspaper in suburban Philadelphia. We are all general assignment photographers. This means we are required to be able to shoot for all the sections; news, features, business and sports, In one day I could shoot a product shot, a portrait, a breaking news story and then a sporting event. Because of my afternoon shift, I am primarily I am a sports photographer. I have covered sports from the professional level to kids in their first organized sporting expereince. I have won numerous awards from the national to the local level, including the AP Managing Editors Award for a Sports Photo. I am a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the International Association of Equestrain Journalists.
My work is not limited to the paper. I am a workaholic and I love my career. I take the skills it requires to be a successful journalist into my feelance work, which includes coroprate, commercial, editorial and stock images. My client list includes international, national and regional companies, magazines and newspapers. I am a member of the Chester County CHamber of Busines and Industry. I've ridden horses the majority of my life, and thus much of my stock involves horses in sport and at home. Being located in eastern Pennsylvania places me in a prime area for this market. I have my own searchable database of equine stock images which can be found at Photoshelter.
While many photojournalists feel that wedding photography is beneath them, and that the market dosen't allow for creativity, I enjoy documenting the unique moments of a wedding day. My work is truly journalistic. You have spent so much time planning your day the last thing you need is a photographer directing your celebration. Of course there are the traditional group photos. For these I ask my couples to provide me with a list of the groupings that are important to them; family and friends that we make sure to include. Beyond this my work is unplanned.
